Asbestos Abatement

Asbestos professionals are trained in handling ACM. There are two types of professionals – asbestos consultants and asbestos contractors. Asbestos contractors do the actual handing of the ACM while the asbestos consultants are involved in activities such as the air sampling, assessment and categorization of ACM. Asbestos consultation is divided into 4 disciplines: Inspector, Management Planner, Project Designer and Project Manager.

Each asbestos contractor and asbestos consultant must provide you with proof of training and the appropriate license issued by the Department of Public Health (DPH).

The Department of Public Health licenses Asbestos Contractors and Asbestos Consultants and maintains these lists for public distribution.

A homeowner may not handle or abate greater than 3 feet of 3 feet² of ACM unless (s)he is licensed by the Department of Public Health as an Asbestos Contractor. DPH recommends that a homeowner not handle or perform any asbestos abatement.

Asbestos removal is complex and must be done only by a CT licensed Asbestos Contractor Improper removal may actually increase the health risk to occupants circulating throughout the home.
